These salons were presented in collaboration with other creatives, artists, musicians, thinkers and food lovers are to explore different themes from my experience as a Papua New Guinean Australian woman that I have incorporated in my new album work.
They were an avenue for me to stretch and throw my creativity as far as I can in the hopes of finding unique ways to present my third album come release time. Throughout my entire career I’d always felt forced to conform to music industry standards constantly wresting with them to work in my favour.l
It’s taken over 10 years of trial and error and time spent with powerful people like African American contem-porary artist Nick Cave and his partner Bob Faust to now be comfortable as purely a ‘creator’ rather then just a music artist.
With all this said, I would like to send thanks up to the incredible Peggy Glanville-Hicks for leaving this house to composer’s like myself that we may fully realise the extent of our creativity without financial constraints.
I would also like to thank Bundanon Trust for initiating the ‘Prelude’ residency programme that allowed me to access such an incredible opportunity and of course the Peggy Glanville-Hicks Trust for their wonderful support since commencing my residency.
I seldom invite outsiders into my creative space so this all at once daunting and exhilarating . I hope it’s also just as exciting for you to be a part of a special few who now will be joining me on this journey to the eventu-al presentation to the rest of the world.
Hope you enjoyed the ride,
Ngaiire x
